In recent years too many people had been repeating, with forced optimism, the mantra "Life is a Gift". Finally a voice from heaven said: Yes, life is a gift, but do remember that we have a gift tax here; and since we believe in social equality and strive to prevent unnecessary haughtiness among the fortunate, the normal tax rate is around 100%, and not too infrequently — far higher than that.
