On the outer surface of the fence that surrounds the universe there is a big sign showing a three-dimensional illustration of the shiny new universe that is supposed to be built here instead of this one. The image is attractive, vivid, and depicts residents who are all beautiful and happy. But the estimated completion date written above it has long since passed. The contractor, having almost completely torn down the existing universe to make room for this project, suddenly went bankrupt before clearing the rubble and beginning the construction phase, and left everything at an indefinite standstill. These developments, spanning eons, have never been revealed to those living on the inside. The only thing that has somehow reached them is the faint, but constant, echo of future promises; the gut feeling that their current condition is only temporary, only a placeholder for something far better.
