חייו של היחיד במסגרת החברה דומים למצבו של מטוס שבו התגלתה מיד לאחר ההמראה תקלה שמחייבת חזרה לנחיתת חירום. במצב כזה, המטוס מלא בדלק שאמור היה להספיק לכל הטיסה המתוכננת, ועליו להסתובב באוויר ולרוקן את המיכלים מתכולתם היקרה והמועילה, רק כדי שמשקלו בנחיתה לא יהיה גבוה במידה מסוכנת. כך גם היחיד, שממריא לעולם עם יעד ראוי ועם האישיות הנדרשת למסע, מקבל מיד אחרי היציאה לדרך התראה מהחברה על חוסר כשירותו למשימה, וקריאה נחרצת לשוב על עקבותיו למען בטיחותו; ואם הוא מציית לקריאה הזאת, הוא מבזבז בדרך כלל את זמנו בעולם על שריפת התוכן הקיים בו, רק כדי שיוכל להגיע לנקודת ההתחלה בידיים ריקות, במשקל נוצה, בלי להתרסק שם בעוצמה מספיקה כדי להותיר חותם.
The life of an individual within society is similar to what happens to an airplane when, immediately after takeoff, a malfunction is detected that requires going back for emergency landing. In that case, the plane is fully loaded with fuel for the entire planned duration of the flight, and must make rounds in the air to empty the tanks of their precious, useful content, in order for its weight at landing not to be dangerously heavy.The individual, too, takes off into the world with a worthy destination and the personality needed for the trip, but soon after departure receives a warning from society asserting his unfitness for the mission, and a stern call to turn back for his own safety; and if he heeds the call, he usually wastes his time in the world burning up everything he has inside him, just to be able to go back to the point of origin empty-handed, featherweight, without crashing there powerfully enough to leave a mark.
