Of all the false idols that have existed in the world, love is the only one that tries to turn its believers into atheists — actively striving to dissociate itself from them, to open their eyes, and to convince them that it is not worthy of their worship. But by its frenzy it only proves to them, from their perspective, that it is indeed real and not merely a figment of their imagination — and thus further inflames the emotional fire that it wishes to extinguish.
