When a culture worships something with all the means at its disposal — for example, the obsession with discussing intersexual relations in countless films, series, songs — it may be due not to being honestly impressed with the magnitude of the thing, but on the contrary, to the troubling feeling that the thing is too small and insignificant by itself, and cannot look impressive without all those magnifying props. Cultural worship, in this case functions much like the implants in a breast enlargement procedure: an artificial foreign object that is inserted into the organic body to create an aesthetic effect, even at the cost of the healthiness of the natural condition.
