The curse of cinema is that its industrial nature — requiring massive financial investment, a large workforce, and high technical expertise — contradicts the artistic need for individual freedom of expression. Cinema will always frustrate anyone who wants to operate as an artist within it, since contrary to the creators' intuitive feeling, it is not an artistic medium taken over by businessmen, but the other way around, a business enterprise originally meant only for entertainment, which artists attempt to co-opt for their own loftier purposes.
