This is only a factual description, but it sounds like a parable, and perhaps, in a way, it really is one. The correct way to kill a mosquito is to wait for it to stand on some flat surface and then approach it as slowly as possible, in order not to move the air — because without an air current the mosquito cannot detect your presence; and only then, from a distance of one centimeter or less, to launch the fatal strike. To increase the chance of success, it is also a good idea to hold a towel rolled into a dense ball; the large surface area will prevent the mosquito from escaping sideways. But this method also poses a difficulty: it takes strong self-discipline to resist common sense and established practice and move your hand toward the mosquito at such a low speed. Often, worrying that the mosquito might sense something and escape, the hunter cannot help himself and begins the strike prematurely; and that is precisely what enables the mosquito to escape after all.
