For what eyes and ears is a work of art intended? Not for those of a human audience, as is known to anyone who created something that got attention and experienced the inability of that attention to satisfy the need for recognition. The true addressee is neither the human audience nor the human creator, but the divine creator — the one from whom the artwork was received in its embryonic form and to whom is must return completed in order to close the circle. What, then, is the role of a human audience, and why is it necessary after all? An artwork's audience has a role similar to that of the audience in a religious ceremony: to witness an act of contact with the spiritual plane that is performed by one person as first among equals — the artist or the priest — and to experience this contact through him in a way that would not be possible without his efforts.
