בגיהנום יש, להפתעת המגיעים אליו, גם מקומות יפים מאוד, מרגיעים מאוד, שבהם הגוף והנפש מרגישים בבית כמו שלא הרגישו בשום מקום אחר. ודווקא המקומות האלה, ולא אתרי העינויים המפורסמים שכולם מצפים לראות, הם שיקרים במיוחד ללבו של השטן: אין דבר שהוא נהנה ממנו יותר מאשר להתבונן במישהו שנמצא במקום כזה ברגע שמחלחלת בו ההבנה שהיופי והרוגע הם, בסופו של דבר, חלק חשוב במלכודת שממנה הוא שאף תמיד להימלט.
In hell there are also, to the surprise of newcomers, very beautiful, very relaxing places, where body and mind feel at home in a way they never felt elsewhere. And it is precisely these places, rather than the famous torture sites that everybody expects to see, that are particularly dear to the devil's heart: he enjoys nothing more than to look at someone situated in such a place, at the moment when the realization filters in that all the beauty and tranquility are, ultimately, an important part of the trap from which that person has always striven to escape.
