לא רחוק מכאן יש ספסל שעליו אנשים משאירים דברים שהם לא צריכים, כדי שיילקחו על ידי מי שמוצא בהם תועלת. כשעברתי שם השבוע, אחד החפצים היה קולאז' גדול שהורכב מהרבה תמונות משפחתיות קטנות. מהלבוש והמראה הכללי של האנשים בתמונות נראה שהן צולמו בעבר הלא רחוק. המשפחה הזאת היתה אמורה להיות, עדיין, פחות או יותר באותו מצב שבו היא הופיעה בהן. אבל משום מה, מישהו החליט שהגיע הזמן להוציא את התיעוד הזה מהבית ולהעביר אותו לזרים, כאילו היה סתם עוד משחק ישן שסר חִנו בעיני ילדים או מכשיר אלקטרוני שאבד עליו הכלח.
Not far from here there is a bench on which people leave things they no longer need, so they can be taken away by whomever finds them useful. When I passed there this week, one of the items was a large collage made up of numerous small family photos. From the clothing and the general appearance of the people in the photos, they had apparently been taken not too long ago. That family still should have been more or less in the same situation in which it was shown in the photos. And yet, for some reason, someone had decided that it was time to take that documentation out of the house and transfer it to strangers, as if it were just another game that had fallen out of favor with children or a hopelessly outmoded electronic device.
