To quote what others have said while mentioning their names may be a necessary practice in academic writing, but in everyday communication it only amplifies the alienation between the speaker and his own life, and also passes this alienation to the listeners. The truth, if it is the truth, belongs to everyone equally; and the correct and proper thing that proves that you indeed consider it to be the truth, is to say it in your own words and under your own name — without crediting whomever happened to steal it and pretend to be its originator.
