There is no contradiction between thinking about the future and living in the present; the thought, even the worry, about what might happen later is not an idle preoccupation with non-existing problems, but on the contrary — a recognition of the existence of an endless number of presents, all as real as the current one, each of which is an absolute ruler of its domain and none of which believes in a fair fight, and the corollary understanding that, before meeting some of them, it is advisable to equip oneself with suitable weapons.
